A fire in the desert is a strange thing

Words like – Godforsaken desert
Such words can’t touch you the way the arid wind can
Can’t pull the moisture out of your blood

When you give yourself to the Desert
every breath is a prayer

A fire in the desert is a strange thing
A fragment of Sun in a cooling Darkness
The sparks climb to join the stars
and the song of yourself is offered to the wind

And after the day is spent
In the hours before dawn
the fire, little more than embers in ashes
In that silent darkness
after the wind has stolen all your words
you will know the strength of your soul
