walking the spine of this solstice night

those you love are warm in the house
they are safe and will be there when you return
right now, right here. . .
let your heart embrace the silence

you’ve brought a fist full of monsters with you
throw them away and listen

listen as the white noise of falling snow flakes washes around you
now feel how empty your hand is

walking the spine of this solstice night
midnight. . .
winter solstice

cloud break
cold stars
bright diamonds on black velvet
so unimaginably distant

in dreams i can fly
sometimes i float in the darkness
sometimes i embrace all the memory people
and there is no talk of forgiving
nor need for any such thing
