The Temple of Whirl – from 2004

They spun and whirled
In their temple
Round and round
All around

This can’t be happening, they said
This is the end of the World

They watched
As one by one
Every one of them took a turn
On the big screen
Decrying the fall
Of the Autumn Empire

Over and over
They drew pictures of Chaos
Whirling eyes and drool
Running down its quivering chins
They shouted
The thunder will eat our ears
And rot our brains
As though Fear wouldn’t do the same

This can’t be happening, they said
This is the end of the World

And while they put their heads
In burlap sacks
The Moon rises
As it should
The Stars wheel
And preen
The Sun returns
And
The Cosmic Wheel turns . . .
