Winter White

Long past the loss of summer
The gold of Autumn
too quickly spent
Covered
altered
Made white by snowfall

White
the color of Death
Punctured by russet husks
withered twigs
Barren branches
along the path that bends
Under a sky
sometimes pewter
Sometimes white
Sometimes as dark
as the promise in your eyes as you left

I walk that path
shivering
Exhausted
afraid

I walk
Believing the Cosmic Wheel will turn
Believing in the thaw
and the buds that are hiding
The potential of the seeds
and shoots
As the metamystic way
all things living
Weather the white
Transforming it into
Green when the proper time has come
