Relentless

in the grey night
under a weeping sky the color of
old pewter

i bashed my fists
against a solid oak door
thicker than a man’s body

the soaking door boards
the thick rusting hinges and bolts
the granite block framing
did not yield

nor did the storm

nor did my heart
