she will have to find some other rock

the she wolf comes running by in the firelight
a flash of motion and shadow
at the corner of the eye

she runs off again into the Night

she has conquered the job
running the Boston Marathon in a thong
and every other challenge this post-modern world can offer

yet, all this violates her comfortable assumption. . .
her absolute conviction of her worthlessness
i mean, after all, she is ‘succeeding’
and this flies in the face of her self-image mythology

and like most of those with the ‘talent’
she would rather unmake the World
than change her mythology

she dearly loved the attention i gave her
in those ‘innocent’ days
those joyful preening school days
of pheromones and gestures
and
she was hoping i might follow her into the darkness
again
chasing her like and animal through her nightmare landscape
where she could suffer horribly
(as her mythology demands)
and yet remain blameless

she can be the innocent victim all over again
the virgin priestess offered to yet another dark god. . .

but this dragon isn’t playing
and she will have to find some other rock
to bash herself against
