Tonight and Tomorrow

Tonight I shall Dance with your ghost
rattling the water pipes
and window panes
But today I watched
a child learn to walk
A dogwood sleeping
secure in its dream of spring
And a few tattered leaves
Dance with this warm winter wind

Tonight I shall sleep
with your ghost again
But this afternoon
The sun is playing tag with the clouds
This stranger’s face is kind
and warm to the hand

Tonight I shall sleep
in the knowing that you are gone
And perchance tomorrow
I shall rise
Brush the shadows from my shoulders
And dance. . .
