merry christmas . . .

and then this foolish old guy shows up
and you have to wonder
where he has been

and he says things like
‘even in the darkest desire
there is a will to live . . .’
i mean
how does he know?

says things like
‘i know you can’t see this son
but you are of worth to me . . .’
don’t you get it old man
the show is over . . .go home

says things like
‘i know what it is to walk through
the hole in the zero . . .’
yeah – right

but he doesn’t go away
and . . .
if you think about it
nothing is keeping him here . . .
why does he stay?

he stops speaking for a moment
pulls an orange from his pocket
offers it in complete honesty

‘merry christmas . . .’
is all he says
