Emerson & enlightened postmodern commerce

Emerson stops by
Because the day has gone dreary
And I am easy

She says
“There are none among you
worthy of my love
For all men are untrue
even though they have wealth
and friends . . .”

I wonder at your price young one
Do you withhold your hand from the dance
of enlightened postmodern commerce
Or is this feigned affection your way of being clever?

She says
“The Kingdom is falling
And the knights have all gone mad
The milk has all gone sour
and the sages unbearably sad”
