undiscovered country

to touch your hand
is to place my foot
on an undiscovered continent

barefoot
on a tawny golden beach
to wade hip deep
into turquoise waters

you speak
and waves crash upon the sands
of this land so familiar
where i have never been before . . .

and i am beset
in this undiscovered country
to lay myself down
under these dancing fronds
and dream a blue-sky world
untroubled and at peace
